About Us
What We Do
The UK START Program works towards the recruitment and retention of first generation and underrepresented High School populations in STEM by providing year-round research opportunities and professional development activities for high school students and teachers on the University of Kentucky Campus.
Authentic Research Experience for Students
Students in the START Program participate in authentic research experiences at the University of Kentucky. These experiences provide students real-world application to their P-12 education, while developing additional skills (academic, mentorship and social integration, professionalism) that will be useful for future STEM undergraduate studies and careers.
Educator Preparation
High School teachers will also be integrated in university support systems, for additional career/professional development, tailored for STEM underrepresented populations. In addition, teachers will be provided authentic research learning and networking opportunities.
